Winter Hinterland

Just woke up to snow, which makes it feel somehow apt to be writing about Hinterfolk by South Wales-based illustrator Jes Hunt. If you’re a fan of moomins and fairytale stuff, you’re going to love these.
That’s Greta posing next to the very thing these figurines remind me of in house ornament terms – the Swedish Dala Horse (if you’re interested, someone has written about that at length here).
Jes apparently spends a lot of time cycling in the darkness through the forests where she lives to get inspiration for such characters as Pekku, Nooma the witch, Aarpo and Helga.
Wonder how long she spends on their names?
