Book club

July 25, 2012

The first rule of book club is….no never mind. I just wanted to flag up this art duo’s installation piece.

It’s a giant maze made up entirely of books and you, people, are invited to join Brazilian creators Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo to help build it in the Clore Ballroom of The Southbank Centre this friday (until the 30th July) as part of the 12-week aMAZEme arts project.

There are 250,000 books-cum-building blocks to use – including donations from Oxfam and various publishing companies – and the plan is to build 13 feet-high walls with them in an event that the SBC has bravely filed under ‘Family & Kids’. I only say bravely because I was tempted to go until I pictured my companions tearing walls down rather than building them.

Anyway, the image above is taken from a similar, smaller project that the artists built in a Rio de Janeiro shopping mall so expect the London version to be pretty awesome.

Nice image for a Kindle publicity shot. ‘Look what you DON’T need!’
