A little bit of bling

October 19, 2010

Gold taps. Ten years ago this was a big no-no. Now? I think gold taps are the business. Here’s my evidence.

Exhibit 1: Architects Joe Morris and Mary Duggan’s home in Kings Grove. Left the hall, which also features a touch of gold in the Alvar Aalto Golden Bell light. Right, the kitchen with a gold Vola tap.

Exhibit 2 (left): The Ace hotel in New York. Gold taps, gold shower, gold shower rail. Exhibit 3: A black bathroom found on Style-files.

Exhibit 4: Isy tap by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for Zucchetti, launched at Milan this year in gold (and white, black and red, but that’s another story).

Four examples in my book maketh a trend. Go forth and buy gold taps.

Hmmm, so we did the wrong thing in replacing the ones in our bathroom? Bother. Mind you, there’s gold taps and then there’s gold taps…

Yes you are quite right. I noticed this a couple of years ago in the apartment of a french hairdresser I saw in Maison Francais ( I think). He said chrome was too cold and industrial and had used bronzed or muted gold fittings. He was clearly ahead of the wave. Your examples look stylish and fresh to my eye. I’m fed up of the industrial luxe look.

Hello, it’s my dodgy layout of putting two different images next to each other. I can see why it’s messing with people’s heads
